Terms of Service

1. Acceptance of these terms

These terms govern your use of americanlawyersdirectory.com, which we operate as an independent publisher. By using the site you accept them. We may update them, and the date above changes when we do; continued use after a change means the updated terms apply. If you do not agree with these terms, do not use the site.

3. No attorney-client relationship

Using this site does not, in any circumstance, create an attorney-client relationship between you and us, or between you and any attorney listed here, until you and that attorney form one directly. Communications sent through this site travel by standard internet email, are not legally privileged, and may be read by our team and by any attorney or firm they are relayed to. Do not send confidential details about any legal matter through this site.

4. Not a law firm or referral service

We are not lawyers, this site is not a law firm, and the site does not constitute a lawyer referral service. We never refer you to a specific attorney and we make no recommendation about any attorney. Selecting an attorney is solely your responsibility, and inclusion of any attorney in the directory is the result of a neutral process that involves no evaluative judgment.

5. Listings are advertising, not endorsements

Attorney listings on this site are attorney advertising. Listings, badges, and any future ratings or reviews are not endorsements, recommendations, or guarantees of any attorney's quality, competence, or character. No representation is made that the quality of the legal services to be performed is greater than the quality of legal services performed by other lawyers.

6. What we verify, and what we do not

Before a listing is published, we confirm the attorney's status against the applicable state bar's public roster at the time of listing. We do not perform continuous monitoring of any attorney's status, and we do not investigate or vet any attorney's qualifications, experience, or disciplinary history beyond that public record. You must independently verify any information that matters to your decision, starting with the state bar's own website.

7. Where listing data comes from

Directory profiles are compiled from public records: state bar admission rosters, court records, and other publicly available sources, plus information attorneys provide when they claim a profile. We do not warrant or guarantee the accuracy, completeness, adequacy, or currency of any listing. The law and lawyers' circumstances change faster than any directory can. The Listing and Removal Policy covers corrections and removal.

8. Content you submit

You are solely responsible for any content you submit to this site, including claim requests, corrections, messages, and any future reviews. You must not submit content that is unlawful, defamatory, infringing, or that you lack the right to share. We do not pre-screen submissions, and we reserve the unrestricted right to remove or refuse any content at any time without liability and without a duty to monitor.

By submitting content you grant us a worldwide, perpetual, irrevocable, royalty-free, sublicensable license to use, reproduce, modify, adapt, publish, and display it in connection with operating the site. Attorneys who claim a listing are additionally responsible for everything in their claimed content and agree the indemnity in section 14 covers claims arising from it, including intellectual property and defamation claims.

9. Your dealings with attorneys

Any consultation, engagement, payment, or dispute between you and an attorney or law firm you find through this site is solely between you and them. We are not a party to those dealings and we are not responsible or liable for any loss or damage of any kind that results from them, including from any advice, information, or services any attorney provides to you.

10. Advertising and call routing

The site is supported by advertising, including sponsored placements and advertised phone numbers. Calls to a general advertised number on this site are answered or returned by a sponsoring law firm that pays to receive them, and in routing those calls we do not attempt to direct you to the firm best suited to your needs. Every such placement is labeled, and the Advertising Disclosure explains the model in full.

11. Prohibited uses

You agree not to:

  • Scrape, harvest, or bulk-download listings, contact data, or any other site content, by automated means or otherwise.
  • Resell, reproduce, or republish the directory or any part of it.
  • Circumvent rate limits, contact-protection measures, or access controls.
  • Use the site to send spam or unlawful communications to anyone, including listed attorneys.
  • Interfere with the operation or security of the site.

12. Disclaimer of warranties

The site and all content are provided on an "as is" and "as available" basis, without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, title, non-infringement, accuracy, and uninterrupted access. Some jurisdictions do not allow the exclusion of implied warranties, so parts of this section may not apply to you.

13. Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, we will not be liable for any direct, indirect, incidental, special, consequential, exemplary, or punitive damages arising out of or in connection with the site, its content, or any advice, information, or services provided to you by any attorney, under any theory of liability. Our total aggregate liability to you for all claims will not exceed one hundred dollars ($100). Where a jurisdiction does not allow these limits, our liability is limited to the smallest amount that jurisdiction permits.

14. Indemnification

You agree to indemnify, defend, and hold harmless American Lawyers Directory and our present, former, and future agents, contractors, and service providers from all claims, losses, damages, costs, and reasonable attorneys' fees made by any third party arising out of (a) content you submit, (b) your use or misuse of the site, (c) your violation of these terms, or (d) your violation of any right of another person or entity.

15. Time limit on claims

Any claim arising out of or related to the site or these terms must be filed within one (1) year after the claim arose, or it is permanently barred, to the extent this limitation is enforceable in your jurisdiction.

16. Governing law and disputes

These terms are governed by the laws of the United States and the state from which we operate the site, without regard to conflict of law rules. Before filing any claim, you agree to contact us first and attempt to resolve the dispute informally within 30 days. Disputes that cannot be resolved informally proceed in the courts with jurisdiction over our place of operation.

17. Changes to these terms

When these terms change, the date at the top of this page changes with them, and material changes are noted on this page for 30 days. The current version always lives at this URL.
