Advertising Disclosure

Last updated July 11, 2026.

1. The short version

Calls to any general advertised phone number on this site are answered or returned by a paid advertiser: a law firm that pays to receive them. That is how the site earns money. Advertising never changes how organic listings are ordered, and every paid placement carries a label.

2. How call routing works

Any phone number promoted on this site, such as in the sticky header bar or the pre-footer banner when those are shown, is an advertising slot. We route calls placed to these numbers to attorneys or law firms who have paid to receive calls during the time period in which they are placed. By calling one of these numbers you agree to the Terms of Service.

We do not receive any commission or fee that depends on which attorney a caller ultimately hires, and you are never obligated to hire anyone you speak with.

3. No matching, no steering

In listing attorneys and routing calls, we do not attempt to direct you to the attorney best suited to your needs, and we make no recommendation. This is advertising, not a referral service and not an evaluation. Being included requires only a payment, and the selection of a participating firm is the result of a neutral process that involves no evaluative judgment.

4. How paid placements are labeled

Every sponsored element carries the bordered "Sponsored" tag, and tapping the tag opens a plain-language explanation with a link to this page. If a placement is paid and you cannot find its label, that is a bug; tell us and we will fix it.

5. What attorneys can pay for

Attorneys and firms can pay for, now or in the future:

  • Receiving calls routed from the advertised numbers.
  • Labeled sponsored placement slots, separate from the organic order.
  • A dedicated tracked phone number on their own listing page.
  • Enhanced profile presentation, when that tier launches.

What is never for sale: a position in the organic listing order, which is computed the same way for every attorney, and this site's editorial content.

6. Affiliate links

This site currently uses no affiliate links. If that changes, links that earn a commission will be disclosed on the pages where they appear and enumerated here.

Every listing on this site is attorney advertising, not legal advice. We run American Lawyers Directory as an independent listing service, not a law firm or a lawyer referral service, and using it does not create an attorney-client relationship with us or with any attorney listed.
