About this directory

American Lawyers Directory is an independent publishing project: a public record of licensed attorneys, organized by state, city, and practice area, built from the rosters the state bars already publish.

Why we built it

Finding a lawyer usually happens in a bad week. The sites that rank for those searches tend to be cluttered, dated, and quiet about which listings are ads. We wanted the opposite: a directory that reads like a serious public record, says plainly where every fact comes from, and labels every dollar that changes what you see.

American Lawyers Directory is run by an independent digital publishing team. We are not lawyers, and this site never gives legal advice. We build data-driven consumer directories across several verticals, including health and technology, and this one applies that craft to the legal vertical: bar rosters as the source of truth, census data for local context, and a hard rule against publishing pages that have no real data behind them.

The rules the site runs on

  • Public records first.Every listing starts from a state bar's public roster, never from self-submission alone.
  • No pay-to-play ranking. Organic order is mechanical and identical for everyone. Sponsored slots are separate and labeled.
  • Photos are never scraped. Profiles show an initials monogram until the attorney uploads a photo.
  • Corrections within days. The Listing and Removal Policy spells out claiming, correcting, and removal.
  • Slow, honest growth. We publish pages in small waves and never link a page that does not exist yet.

Where the site stands today

As of July 11, 2026: pages for all 50 states and D.C. are live, the first bar rosters are loading, and city pages, practice area pages, and attorney profiles follow in small waves. The Editorial Policy covers how each page type gets made, and the contact page reaches our team directly. We read every message.
